Normally we put our next show here.
There isn't one. So... yeah.
We posted some video from the last show up on the video page. Neat huh?
Also posted a review from the LEO of the last show up on the press page.
That's all for now.
Welp, the last show is now behind us. If you weren't there you missed the most epic/epically ridiculous performance Yardsale ever put on. In addition to all of your Yardsale favorites, the group played quite a few covers, including "Gin & Juice" with some help from Mr. Jon Free- and not that bullshit bluegrass arrangement the honkys usually do. This was straight up gangsta. For a first encore the group did "Shine" by Collective Soul and, oddly, people still wanted more following that abomination, so the group ended with The Band's "Don't Do It" by request. It was a night to remember, but due to the amount of booze consumed, there's probably going to be a few holes in everyone's memories.
BUT, it was recorded. There might be some kind of live thing in the offing, we'll see. For now, go listen to Knock Alley West and raise a glass to Louisville's Second Most Rootin'-est Tootin'-est band.
We've talked to the Vernon club and came up with the following deal for our last show (July 17): come dressed as a robot and you can get in for $6 instead of $8 or $9. Really - break out the tinfoil and do it up!
It's official - our farewell show will be at the Vernon Club (1575 Story Ave) on July 17. Opening will be the Avery Set and the Young Republic. Doors are at 8:00, show starts at 9:00.
You may have noticed we added a show, June 9 at Skull Alley opening for These United States; if you didn't, this is your notice!
We may also have one more show in July following Forecastle; we will update you as soon as we know. At least you can't say we aren't giving you plenty of chances to catch us.
Well folks, there's no easy way to say this, so we'll just throw it out there - this summer's Yardsale shows will be our last for the foreseeable future. We've got folks in the band who are getting out of school and moving away, folks moving away to go to school, folks who have never been to school just finding out what it is, and the end result is that we just won't all be in the same time zone at the same time for awhile.
Now, in the past Yardsale has soldiered on through numerous lineup changes - no more. We all feel this is the definitive lineup and there's just no way to replace someone and have it work. Or rather, it just wouldn't be Yardsale without this group of people.
There are other projects on the horizon - Kirk has been playing with Adventure and will continue to; Andrew can be found playing classical guitar up at U of L and also performs with local group Anton Mink; and at some point, some of the guys who remain in the area may very well cook up something new. You'll be the first to know.
So, for those of you who supported us through thick, thin, and medium, thank you very very VERY much. The past couple years have been fantastic, from opening for Scott Miller to playing Live Lunch and everything in between. If you haven't picked up Knock Alley West, please do - we're very proud of it and, we promise, it just gets better with each listen. We hope to see you at the shows we've got left (listed at the end.)
For those of you who haven't seen us in awhile or have been putting it off - this is your last chance. We won't disappoint. And if we do, who cares! You'll just have to deal with it. We have NOTHING TO LOSE!
And of course there are you new fans - must seem weird that we put out an album at the beginning of February and are already "breaking up" - but fear not! As stated, there are a few chances left to catch us, and considering this more of a logistical breakup than anything, there is an extremely good chance we'll get back together in the future if our schedules allow.
Also, a big thanks to Ellen Cherry, Elmer White, and Melanie Dillman for augmenting Yardsale and turning us into a twang rock orchestra. Also thanks to people like Justin Eslinger and Kevin Gibson, who helped us out all along the way, Cassie Doumas for taking photos, Neil Hulsewede for being our part-time steel player, the Sandpaper Dolls, Drew Miller, and Deanna Burnell for their work on the album, and of course Jordan Forst for his engineering know-how and songwriting prowess. Lastly, and not least, thank you to Charlie the Painter, famous and tireless Louisville music promoter, who booked our first shows, gave us our funniest stories, and gave us the best description of our music: "a bluesy, jazzy, truck driver sound." Amen Charlie, Amen.
So once again, thank you all, and we'll see you on the other side.
May 29 - Phoenix Hill - 8:00 (with Mic Harrison and Sonia Leigh)
June 5 - Air Devil's Inn - 10:00 (with John Baxter & the Bottomfeeders)
June 9 - Skull Alley - 8:00 (with These United States)
June 19 - Slugger Field - 5:00
July 9 - Forecastle Festival
More reviews (most of them in Dutch!) continue to roll in. Check out the PRESS page for more proof we're awesome.
Got some shows coming up, including May 29 at Phoenix Hill opening for ex-V-roy Mic Harrison! We'll be playing with John Baxter & the Bottomfeeders at Air Devil's Inn the following weekend, June 5, and on June 19 we'll be returning to Slugger Field, so mark those calendars!
Wanna get Knock Alley West all digital-like? You can! http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/knock-alley-west/id350961592
Click that! Do it!
LEO has posted a review of Saturday's show at their blog. Check that out here.
We've also been doing some work on the website here - we've updated the Bios page as well as added a Press page to keep track of all the media attention we're getting. You know, because we like reading about ourselves.
Welp, we made the cover of Louisville Music News for February. If your curiosity of what hanging out with Yardsale is really like wasn't satiated by the LEO podcast, see if this article does the job. It's available here.
LMN also reviewed Knock Alley West and boy did they ever like it.
If you're not a fan of ours on facebook, you should probably become one. www.facebook.com/yardsaleband is the page. Some fans have posted video from Saturday's release show that are definitely worth checking out.
With the new album due out, Yardsale is popping up all over the local press. Velocity gave Knock Alley West a positive review (to be posted shortly) as did the LEO, which can be read HERE.
Speaking of the LEO, Colin, Jacob, Chris, and Kirk stopped by their offices to take part in LEO's weekly podcast. If you've ever wondered what it's like to try to get a word in edgewise with the Yardsale guys, this is the podcast for you. Check it out HERE.
Don't forget - January 30, 2:00pm - instore at Ear X-Tacy, followed by the big release show at 10:00pm at the Vernon Club.
The folks over at In My Basement Room were kind of enough to review Knock Alley West. Needless to say, they dug it. Check it out here!
We are also going to be featured on the bonus disc of this year's Louisville is for Lovers. Lots of other great acts including the Deloreans, Broadfield Marchers, and Adventure (with Kirk on bass!) so be sure to pick that up.
So you missed our explosively epically awesome Live Lunch performance on Friday? Have no fear! WFPK is nice enough to archive all performances, and you can check ours (and lots of other great ones) out here - http://www.wfpk.org/live-lunch-audio-archive/
As if that wasn't enough, can watch a video of "Lost my Mind" fan Sarah Davis filmed here - http://vimeo.com/8620805
Also, PLEASE, email WFPK at studio@wfpk.org and request Yardsale! Any song is fine - "Dream of Amarillo", "Mississippi's Flooding", "Until I Can't Remember", whatever song you dig - get them to play it! You can also call the studio at (502) 814-WFPK (9375). DO IT!
If you don't want to wait until Jan 30 to get a copy of the new Yardsale album, for heaven's sake, go to the music page and buy one already!
If you do plan on waiting, we are pleased to announce our CD release show will be held Jan 30 at the Vernon Club! Thomas A. Minor and the Picket Line will be opening things up, before we take the stage for the first ever full performance of Knock Alley West. We will have a few special guests helping us out, so mark your calendar, it's gonna be quite a show.
Also that same day, we will be playing an in-store at Ear X-tacy at 2:00 pm. You know, if you can't wait until that night to get the album and/or you want to see us REALLY up-close.
That's all for now...
Finally - the wait is over!
You can go ahead and purchase Knock Alley West directly from us, through this very website! Just head over to the music page, or the store. It's only $10, c'mon!
We will also have it for sale at shows, beginning with our CD release show January 30 (more info on that soon!) It'll then be in stores like Ear X-Tacy, Underground Sounds, and of course your online retailers like iTunes etc.
We hope it was worth the wait.
Before the big news - for those of you who missed Kirk's WFPK appearance, they have it archived HERE. Kirk performed "Happy In My Misery" (off the new album) and "Until I Can't Remember" got its world broadcast debut. Neat stuff.
But we promised big news, so here it is - the long awaited new album, Knock Alley West is set for release! We will be having a release show in January, as well as some other shows to help promote the album. We'll have full details when we get it all worked out but don't fret - it'll be worth the wait. We will also have pre-order information up here as soon as the CDs are in our hands. Whooooeeeee!
Check out www.wfpk.org (or tune to 91.9 on your dial if you're in the Louisville area) at 11:00am tomorrow (12-9-09) for your Yardsale fix.
Okay, so we've been lax on the ol' blog. Between the facebook, the myspace, the twitter, etc. it's hard to keep up with everything!
The acoustic set has been rescheduled for this Sunday, Dec 6 at the Comedy Caravan. We play around 4:00; the whole show starts at 2:00 and also features the Sandpaper Dolls, Danny Flanigan, Justin Lewis, and more. Should be a good time.
We will also be playing Headliners Dec 10 to support SweatFree Louisville. Those of you who caught our last gig at Headliners know the kind of damage we can do with a big stage. The more room to dance, the more rock Yardsale brings.
In the bigger news department - Knock Alley West will finally be available for sell soon! We'll have a pre-order page up in the next week or so. Trust us, it's worth the wait.
Welp, we got some more press last week, with Kirk being interviewed about the upcoming album for the LEO (Louisville Eccentric Observer.) Check that out here:
http://leoweekly.com/music/b-sides-music-other-ephemera-26
Also, you do not want to miss the shows coming up: Nov 13 we play the best venue in town, the Vernon Club, with two of our favorite local bands, Bad Blood and the Deloreans. The Huckleberry Horns will be in tow, so what are you waffling about?
Nov 19 we'll be playing Skull Alley to help support the Louisville Photographic Alliance, so come out for a good cause!
And last, but not least, we'll be playing our first acoustic set on Nov 22 at the Comedy Caravan. It's a CD release show for a compilation of lullabyes put out by Sonablast Records to benefit the Home of the Innocents. A new mix of Electric Western's "Down Below" is featured on the album, and so we're gonna play all pretty and quiet-like. So not only do we get to show our versatility, we get to benefit yet another great cause. Aren't we a charitable bunch?
We've gotten a couple writeups recently. First there is:
http://inmybasementroom.blogspot.com/2009/10/yardsale-louisvilles-own.html
And then there is this one, regarding our MPMF appearance last month:
http://chillicothebands.com/?p=726
Contiuing a 4th Street BBC trend, next week's show has been cancelled. Sunday's Pancake Breakfast at Underground Sounds is being moved to April. Thus, you all are free to do your regular fall activities for the weekend of Oct 17 and 18.
Thus, our next show should be November 13 at Vernon Lanes with Bad Blood and the Deloreans. There should also be an acoustic show shortly thereafter, so be on the look out for that.
Hey there Bargain Hunters,
It's been busy 'round our way and there are no signs of letting up. If you missed the rooftop show at Glassworks shame on you - beautiful scenery, great people, and needless to say, Yardsale + horns = excelente! Check the Shows section because we've got some more coming up in October with the horns and it is something to behold.
We'll also be performing this Saturday, Sept 26, at the Midpoint Music Festival (mpmf.com) in Cincinatti, specifically on the Washington Platform around 11:30 or midnight. You Cinci peeps better make us out-of-towners feel welcome!
Welp, sorry fellers, but the BBC show for Saturday, August 8 has been cancelled. No fun, as we were looking forward to playing some longer sets with the horn players.
But fear now - Sept 11 we will be playing on the roof of Glassworks with Brett Eugene Ralph's Kentucky Chrome Revue, so it's a guaranteed awesome show.

Four tracks off of Knock Alley West, our new album, have been posted...
www.myspace.com/yardsale
That's the title for the new album, which is finally complete. More details due out soon.
Check the shows page- we got a bunch coming up!
Jeeze, where did the time go?
Recording of the new album has been completed. It is being mixed. We hope to have a final mix in the next week or two. Then onto mastering and it's ready to roll! We can't wait for everyone to hear this album, we've been through a lot recording it, including nearly breaking into one unreliable fellow's house, and I have to say, for all of us, the relief at being finished may in fact outweigh our pride in the final product's greatness.
Check out the gig calendar and come out and see us, we'd love the encouragement!
Welp, we recorded this past weekend and the album is 90% finished. Some vocals, some percussion, an accordian, and some special guests need to be done and voila - the next Yardsale album will be in the can. Or on the hard drive. Whatever.
We brought our camera so head over to the photos section to check out some pics of us acting ridiculous, serious, and all manner of moods in between. Tom foolery abounds. We also added photos from January's Phoenix Hill show opening for Scott Miller.
Stay tuned, Bargain Hunters!
It's official- we will be recording at Downtown Recording studios the last weekend of this month... provided Andrew doesn't break any more mandolins and Colin's unchecked rage doesn't get the best of him. You know how that goes.
Couple shows on the books with another couple to be added soon. Check back soon...
Where have we been? Just absent from the blog, that's all. We have been busy playing shows as well as gearing up for some recording sessions we hope to start very very soon. The songs are all written, arranged, rehearsed, and ready to roll- we just gotta record them. This album's gonna be a doozie, you better bring an extra pair of undies and some sedatives.
In the meantime, we've got a couple shows- Jan 20 at the BBC on 4th Street, following the Kings of Leon show at the Palace; and Jan 24 at Phoenix Hill, opening for the always amazing Mr. Scott Miller & the Commonwealth. Goddamn. You might need two changes of undies for that show.
So first of all, the Intergalactic Twang Tour did indeed finish up with all five Yardsale boys surviving. Quite a feat. Check out the myspace blog to see how things turned out.
Also, Yardsale finally got with the program and is on Facebook. We know you're a fan on the inside- make it official and add us already, yeesh!
We've also got a couple shows coming up in the next few weeks, check out the Shows page for info on that.
Major photo update. We are, after all, the most photographically documented unsigned band working today. Added stuff to the assorted photos page, as well as added new promo photos showing our wide range of emotions, plus lots of photos from Friday's Skull Alley set.
Speaking of Skull Alley, we'll be back there this Thursday, Sept 4, with a totally different set, new songs, AND the theme from "The Jeffersons" if you're good. If you missed the last show, well sucks for you because Lydia Burrell, Ocelots, and the Deloreans all put on excellent sets, not to mention ol' Yardsale doing what we do best- rockin' faces.
And next Friday, Sept 5 the Intergalactic Twang Tour hits the Pour Haus. Not to be missed.
Check out the myspace blog if you haven't been keeping up with our diary. Ass.
That's right, we've finally gotten around to making Yardsale This Week available here on the website. Head over to the store OR the Music section and buy the darn thing already!
We've done some other minor updates to the site, poke around see what you can find chickens.
The first week of the Intergalactic Twang Tour is over. We start up next Friday, August 29 at Skull Alley.
We've been keeping a tour diary at www.myspace.com/yardsale - go check it out chilluns.
Look the fuck out, Yardsale is starting another tour...
THE INTERGALACTIC TWANG TOUR.
Check out the SHOWS page for all the dates. We're hitting all the spots.
Oh, and we'll have a brand-new EP to sell. And shirts. Fuck yeah.
RED ROCKS!
Okay, look at the top left- Lisa's Oak Street Lounge on August 15. Be there. We've been away, honing our skills, practicing our rock, all in preparation for the next couple months. It will be intense. This is not hyperbole.
And yes, we have lots of shows coming up, with more in the works. It's getting crazy. Check the Shows page regularly and mark your calendars bitches.
Also in the works: we ran out of the homemade Live EPs and decided to make them "official" - so we're doing a limited run that will be available very soon (maybe even for the Lisa's show) of Yardsale This Week. More info when we have it.
Just a quick note to thank all the chilluns that made Sunday's Headliners show so much fun. If you weren't able to get a copy of our live EP along with Electric Western just email info@yardsaleband.com and let us know and we'll get you one when we get more copies in. We didn't think we'd run out, sorry!
Check out the VIDEO page for some footage from Abbey Road on the River.
Head on over to the photos section to view what ample proof that Yardsale is the most well-documented band no one's ever heard of- we've got photos out the yin-yang from our three Abbey Road on the River sets.
And speaking of which, we had a blast. Lots of Yardsale virgins had their cherries popped, children danced, and the rain stayed away. Lovely. Big thanks to Gary Jacobs for putting on the shindig, our buddy Kevin for getting us the gig, the incomparable Neil Hulsewede for playing pedal steel with us, and to everyone who gave little ol' us a chance by sticking around and listening.
You also may have noticed the next show- it's at Headliners. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day of show. If you want a ticket in advance just shoot us an email at info@yardsaleband.com and we'll make it happen.
First off, in case you missed us on Fox in the Morning, check it out on the VIDEO page or on YouTube.
We did "Dream of Amarillo" (yep, a new song) and "While She Sleeps" and were interviewed by The Bernson and Candyce Clifft. And Colin showed off his stylin' threads.
And don't forget we're playing at Abbey Road on the River this weekend. Sunday our set is at 7:00, and Monday we play at 6:00, both at the Brian Epstein (River) stage. Come get your twang on.
Don't forget- this Friday: Fox in the Morning. Between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, we'll be rockin'. And then, of course, Friday night, Sunday night, and Monday night we'll be at Abbey Road on the River, playing our tunes, Beatles tunes, and maybe a Herman's Hermit's tune or six. Check the Shows page for more info.
Speaking of Beatles tunes, a few were tried out at the Pour Haus last night. Your mom loved them. Pictures in the photos section.
New live EP being mastered, should be ready ridiculously soon. Holy crap!
May is shaping up to be a doozie of a month. In addition to our Fox in the Morning performance (May 23), Pour Haus show (May 16) and Abbey Road on the River, we also happen to be putting the finishing touches on a little live album/EP thingie. The Yardsale train ain't for stragglers, nosiree. We've posted the unmastered versions of five of the seven tracks on myspace. YOWZA.
Now take it to the bridge!
First off, we finally got photos from the Bearnos show up in the Photos section, so check it out if you're not sure what we look like yet.
Secondly, there's talk of some new recordings surfacing soon. We're efficient little ducks, we are.
For reasons completely out of our hands, we're not playing Underground Sounds on April 19 as previously reported by the most reliable of sources, so go find something else to do.
Saturday marked the first show with our brand spankin' new drummer, Colin. Pics from the show are on myspace and soon to be here as well. Yee haw. We've updated the bios section as well. Thanks to everyone who made it out and thanks to Bearnos for moving some tables out of the way so we could squeeze in. And thanks to U of L for winning and putting people in a good mood.
Lots of shows coming up, so keep an eye on the Shows page. Check it out and mark your calendar for our Abbey Road on the River sets as well!
Yep, at last, you can be a walking billboard for your favorite cosmic american science fiction folk music playing rock combo, Yardsale!
Head on over to the store and check it out. And even cooler, we have a deal that you can buy the t-shirt AND Electric Western for $11 (+S&H). Doesn't get much cheaper than that, does it?
Don't forget about the Highlands Taproom show, Feb 23, only a couple weeks away. It'll be a good 'un, we promise!
We've had two reviews for Electric Western published thus far. One from LEO, HERE and another from Louisville Music News HERE. If you're on the fence about buying EW, take a gander at those!
Despite being a last-second show, Friday night's festivities turned out to be a blast; thank you Deloreans for inviting us out, and thank you audience (except for the guy who booed "Ghostbusters"- to you I still say FUCK YOU) for hollering. For those of you who missed it, Jacob is back, with a cowboy shirt, a harmonica, and a few years worth of pent-up rock.
February 23, as you can see to the top left, is the next show. Opening will be the Uncommon Houseflies, a joke-rock band with some familiar faces in the group. We'll be played two sets following them and it should be a good time, as the Tap Room always is. I mean Christ, we played Robert Plant's "Tall Cool One" the last time we were. Clearly there's something weird happening there.
Well last night's show was something else. Sweetwater Abilene kicked ass, the Hello Darlins got the room a dancin', and then ol' Yardsale had to mop everyone up. We had plenty of help, with Neil Hulsewede helping us out on steel, Jacob came along to sing "Down Below", "Everybody" and played some hot harmonica on "Cheater Bar Blues", Jordan Forst reprised his hot guitar licks for "Cheater Bar", and then the whole gaggle PLUS Justin Eslinger joined in for a big finale of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." I swear I saw a confederate flag appear. Glorious. There are lots of photos for those of you who wanna see them, in the photo section.
We're gonna be taking some time off to learn up some new songs, as well as fiddle with all these personnel changes. Most exciting is Jacob's return, so watch out for that. In the meantime, have a happy holiday season, get wasted on egg nog, and don't gift and drive. Or something.
Check out the Road section for a snazzy new recording we dug up from Headliners - "Moving in Reverse" with some crazy dual lead guitar.
And don't forget about our CD Release Show - December 14 at the Pour Haus. The Hello Darlins and Sweetwater Abilene will be opening, and we're hoping to have some special guests help us out during our set as well...
Check out the live section for a couple recordings from last night's Pour Haus show- you won't regret it. How many bands can (and would dare) play alt.country originals, a Neil Young song, AND a Robert Plant solo song? Big thanks to Ocelots and The Deloreans for playing with us, and of course to friend/producer/auteur Justin Eslinger for playing guitar with us in Andrew's absence. And thanks to Jon Free for singing "The Radio's Blasting" with us. And thanks to all you special people that came out and hollered and called us cute.
Lots of new photos too, so check go take a peek. You might see yourself.
And for those of you who prefer CD Baby, Electric Western is now available from there. CHECK IT OUT.
Finally, our new album Electric Western is here! Just head on over to the music section to check out song lyrics, download a song, and of course, BUY IT. It'll be on CD Baby soon too, but you can get it straight from us right now. So what are you waiting for?
And we've got a couple shows coming up- November 17 with Ocelots and The Deloreans and Dec 14 with Sweetwater Abilene. Both are at the Pour Haus. Tell your friends, family, pets, derelicts, congressmen, etc.
And check out the photo section, lots of new things- you might see yourself (and not just because we change personnel so much there's a good chance you are, or have been, in the band.)
So yesterday was Guitar Chris's Yardsale birthday- Underground Sounds' St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast was his first show last year, and yesterday's performance was acres better, as were the pancakes. And the crowd. Thanks to the Underground Sounds folks for once again putting on a fun day of free food and free rock, as well as all the other acts who came out to make the day what it was.
Speaking of personnel, yesterday was also the first show for Andrew Rhinehart, who is playing keyboards with us. Fancy schmancy, huh?
Next Saturday (Oct 27) at the Highlands Tap Room, 10:00, Jon Free will be playing his first full show since the demise of Safecracker, so don't miss it! We'll be playing for awhile following him, including a full performance of our new album Electric Western which should be available for purchase within the next week or so.
It's almost here. The new album, Electric Western. It's being mastered as we speak. Keep your britches on!
New show, Oct 6 opening for Johnny Berry at Seidenfaden's. We're working for tips so come out and holler and bring singles.
Check out the ol' photos section for a new big batch of our smiling, frowning, at-times-constipated-looking faces from the show at the Pour Haus a couple weeks back. We know you like looking at us as much as we do.
The new album is rolling on; recording is completed, a good chunk of the songs are mixed, with the rest to follow shortly. The wait is nearly over Bargain Hunters!
And we have just signed on to play the annual St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast at Underground Sounds on Sunday, Oct 21. Last year's was Guitar Chris's first show with the band... my how time (and pancake) flies. So come out and wish Chris a happy Yardsale birthday, and wish anyone whose real birthday it is too. What's stopping you?
Welp, the new album is 95% finished. We put some photos up (in the photos section, amazingly enough) of Jacob and Jordan Forst (of Adventure and the Health and Happiness Family Gospel Band fame) working on "Cheater Bar Blues", adding harmonica and guitar respectively.
We've got a couple shows with some great bands coming up next month so check the Shows section and mark your calendars.
Recording moves ahead. Another session or two and it'll be finished. It will be 12 songs. Some of them have been part of the live set for awhile, some for not such a while, and some have never been done. We've got some fancy guests helping us out too, more info when someone compels us to give it.
Huge Yardsale is playing at the Rud Friday, if you missed the little thing in the top left corner there advertising the next show. Getting lazy, are we?
Saturday night was something else. For the first time in two years or more (or less, I dunno) the original lineup of Yardsale played a complete show. "Down Below" (known to you folks who visit the myspace page) was played for the first time, as well as old chestnuts like "Fencepost." This won't be the last time you see ol' Jacob Lee back from the dead, we can promise you that.
And don't worry Guitar Chris fans- he's still with us! That's right, we've come full circle and somehow ended up with more guitar players then we know what to do with, except we know what to do with them all. Mark down July 6 @ the Rud, that's all I'm saying.
Saturday, June 23, yes, this Saturday, we are playing at Wick's in the Highlands. You do not, under any circumstances, want to miss this show. Jacob Lee, founding member who was once thought dead, is going to be filling in for Guitar Chris. If rehearsals are any indication (and I'd like to think they are) this is gonna be one hot night. Dangerbird and Scotty Lust & the Two-timers are gonna be filling out the rest of the night. Oh yeah, and it's free. What more do you want?
'Twas quite a productive weekend. Album 3 is getting closer and closer to completion, with eight songs being completed or just this side of completed, including concert favorites "Kari I Know", "Standing Here" and "Last to Know." Lowell laid down some lovely steel, thanks in no small part to a large cache of Pop Rocks he brought to keep him in the zone; Guitar Chris played some tasty rhythm and lead; Drummer Chris kept us all steady and Kirk earned his keep with some fine bass playing. Once again Justin Eslinger kept the tapes running and the trains on time. We posted pictures in the Photos section.
Speaking of the Photos section, we also put up a boatload of photos from the Headliners show. Check 'em out.
And since we posted it over at myspace, might as well post it here- the tracklisting for the new 30 Years of Yardsale ...minus 26 years is:
1. Holding Hands (MasterYourSound version)
2. Reflection
3. Fencepost
4. Candybar
5. Think Again
6. Snow Is Good
7. Keep In Touch
8. Germany (outtake from Moving in Reverse)
9. Gray Out
10. Everybody (Ends Up Alone)
11. Moving In Reverse (live at the Rustic Frog 2006)
12. Jenny, I Can't Red (live at Headliners 2007)
13. You Drive A Truck
Last night was the "big" Headliners show. It wasn't the most organized show we've ever played, but we had a good chunk of people come out to see us (thanks to all of you, especially those of you hollering!) Saw some familiar faces such as Chase Dabney and the Fire Ant fellas, and the sound guy was great and let us patch into the sound board to record our set (pics and Mp3s coming soon!), so all in all, a good time was had by all.
In other news, as album three recording rolls on, we're gonna offer up a CD to tide you peoples over until it's ready:

Encompassing all eras of Yardsale, 30 Years of Yardsale...minus 26 years will have highlights from the first two albums, along with live recordings, demos, and unreleased studio stuff. Yee-haw! We'll only be making a small number and selling them at shows. The first two albums are only available at CDBaby, and one copy of Moving in Reverse remains at Ear X-Tacy, so get them while you can...
So we finally added some new media for you folks. If you go to the Music page and click "From the Road" you'll notice some new goodies, namely "Jenny, I Can't Red" (that's right, a new song!) from the Rud a couple months back, as well as the seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time song, "Snakes On a Plane" from the Moving In Reverse CD release show. If you click on "Demos" you'll find some real oldies; "Fencepost", written and sung by Jacob Lee and recorded way back in 2004, and the original version of "Holding Hands" from that same year. Just right-click and save-as to get the goodies.
And one more reminder for all you Bargain Hunters - next Sunday is the Headliners show, so come on out and support us (please!)
So we've got this Headliners show coming up soon, on Mother's Day, Sunday May 13. We actually have to sell tickets for $8. A bit high priced, admittedly, but word on the street is they're charging even more at the door.
So, if you're looking for something to do on a Sunday evening and want to hear Yardsale play through a decent sound system for a change, get in touch with us and we'll get a ticket to you. Bring mom out, even, we'll show her a good time. And it's all ages too, so bring the kids. Or if you are a kid, bring yourself. Or something.
We hope to have some surprises, some blasts from the past, all that we can cram into however long the set is. So to get tickets, just email kirk@yardsaleband.com or chrispscott@gmail.com and we'll get things a-rolling.
Tomorrow (4/24) Think Again is the Power Pop Track of the Day at garageband.com. Weird.
First off a big thank you to all who showed up to the Highlands Taproom last night for our set, especially the staff of Famous Dave's. Yardsale is always available for your next corporate event, just shoot us an email.
Also thanks to Goodbye Congregation for putting on a great show and getting us out there to play.
It was an interesting show; Lowell was whisked off to Puerto Rico a day earlier than planned, thus neccesating the yearly Diet Yardsale show (Lo-T free.) A few new songs were played, a few old ones, and a good time was had by all, despite the lack of pedal steel.
Also of note: we are officially sold out of BOTH Yardsale albums. CD Baby still has copies, and I believe there might be a couple left at Ear X-Tacy. There are no plans for doing another run of either album, so get them while you can...
Recording for the next album continued yesterday, though drummer Chris was out sick with a nasty virus of some sort. Two songs were finished (bringing the count up to three now, yee haw!)- the first to feature Lowell's shiny new pedal steel guitar. Guitar Chris brought his camera and snapped some photos, found in the photos section (crazily enough.) Maybe next time we can get someone outside the band to take photos so Guitar Chris can sneak into some.
We'll be playing a bunch of the new songs at the next show, Thursday April 12 at the Highlands Tap room, so be sure to come out and support us, we'll appreciate it. Goodbye Congregation are coming all the way from Murray, KY to play, and you don't want to miss them.
You should also be sure to leave Easter Eve, April 7 free. Lowell and Kirk will once again be joining some the cream of the crop of Louisville rockers (members of Vrktm, Bad Blood, The Touched, Adventure, The Smacks!! and more) as the Health and Happiness Family Gospel Band, performing gospel music the likes of which you've never heard before. The show starts at 10:00 at Lisa's Oak Street Lounge.
My jeans hurt.
Forgotten what Yardsale looks like? Check out the photos section for some new pics from last month's Pour Haus set. If you can spot yourself in one of the photos you were either lost, a band member's girlfriend, or in a band featuring one or more members of Yardsale.
Might want to pop over to the myspace page - we've posted the first recording from what we hope will be the third Yardsale album. The song, "Down Below," was written and performed by not-quite-deceased Jacob Lee and Kirk, with ol' Justin Eslinger manning the board and mics and whatnots. Plans are afoot for more recording at the tail end of March. Excited yet? Well then at least pretend for our sake, jeeze.
First off, yowza, thanks to the enthusastic crowd for making last night one of the most enjoyable shows we've done in a long time. Sure, we were sitting down, but that didn't seem to hurt anything. Pulled out some covers, the Byrds/Gram Parsons song "Hickory Wind" and Michael Nesmith's "Propinquity (I've Just Begun to Care)", you know, to keep everyone on their toes. Or something. Might have some recordings posted soon, so check back...
Little reminder, we'll be doing our country/acoustic-y thang tonight at the Highlands Tap Room around 10:00. We hope to finally make someone actually cry in his/her beer.
And definitely don't miss the next show on Feb 3 at the Pour Haus. We'll be making up for this acoustic stuff by being extra loud... er... rockin', yeah. And Norust is coming back to help, along with J. Glenn and some familiar faces.
First up- we'll be doing another acoustic show, this time at the Highlands Tap Room on January 4. There's always way more tomfoolery at acoustic shows, you know.
Photos from the OLCH acoustic/electric night o'fun are now up in the photos section. Guitar Chris even got a haircut especially for it!
Check out the new Yardsale Store (there's a link in the header too!) Snag both albums, some stickers, and in the future, more goodies.
And we've (well, webmaster genius Jon Culver) also gotten the comments fixed so hopefully thwart spammers, to have at it.
Check out the photos section for pics from the Underground Sounds show (you know, in case you missed Guitar Chris's big debut). Speaking of Guitar Chris, he is officially kicking ass.
In other news the Pour Haus is a great venue- expect to see us there again. The Ocelots and A Gang of Chargers are both amazing. Short sentences rock.
Check it out: another gig coming up in a couple weeks: October 28 at Underground Sounds. Come see Guitar Chris make his big debut AND eat some pancakes.
That's right. Pancakes. Underground Sounds is having their second annual St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast. Other acts scheduled are Elron Hoover (from FL) Ayin, Scotty Lust & the Two Timers, Vampire Squid, Phil Najjar (acoustic), Clint Ackerman (acoustic), and Grotesque Burlesque. So show up at 2:00 with an empty stomach and a hunger for The Rock. And pancakes.
So if you haven't noticed we've got a couple new gigs: November 4 at the Pour Haus (formerly Club 21) with Ocelots and A Gang of Chargers; Dec 2 at Old Louisville Coffee House with Newport's own Norust and one other act TBA. For more info, links, etc. check out the Shows page.
We're also excited to announce the arrival of Chris Scott, henceforth known as Guitar Chris, on rhythm guitar. Thus the lineup for the next couple shows should be stable. Maybe. You can find out more about Guitar Chris by checking out his bio.
Also, The Reverend has made contact and is alive and well and on a new mission for the lord. We wish him the best and maybe, one day, all the past and present and future members of Yardsale can join together for some ridiculous performance of an easy classic rock cover that will take little rehearsal.
Yardsale has reached a new plateau. At the AIDS Walk yesterday the band was introduced by none other than Dawn Gee of Wave 3. Right-click and save-as the link below (or just click it)
I think it's safe to say that "Louisville's first most rootin'-est tootin'-est band" will be included in every press kit from here on. Justin and Andy from the Touched as well as the fact that Yardsale was the only rock band present made for quite a unique show, sucks for you if you missed it. Thanks to Daniel for having us. Always nice to support a good cause- apparently this was the most successful AIDS Walk yet. I'm not saying there's a connection between Yardsale playing and the Walk's success... just pointing out the facts.
For more info on how much money was raised and how you can donate yourself, check out the AIDS Walk website.
First things first: THE AIDS WALK IS THIS SUNDAY. We'll be going on around 1:00 and I expect they will be running a tight ship time-wise, so if you wanna see us fight some mean ol' disease, then you should be punctual. It's down by the Belvedere, if that helps any. This should be an interesting set, due to the presence of The Touched's Justin Eslinger and Andy Matter helping out on guitar and drums respectively (drummer Chris is out of town training people how to make BBQ and as previously mentioned, David has dropped off the face of the Earth.) So don't miss out.
More big news coming soon, along with a show or two hopefully. Stay tuned bitches.
Friday was full of surprises... from "Snakes On a Plane" to duel-steel on Hank Williams' "Why Don't You Love Me" and everything in between. Had some help from Justin Eslinger (of Touched, Bad Blood, and Safecracker fame) for a number of songs, as well as Neil Hulsweed providing the steel guitar for the night. It doesn't get much better than that. We're still not sure where David is and pray that the wilds of Charlestown have not swallowed him whole.
Thanks to Foster for asking us to play the show and to everyone that made it out (especially those dancing dwarves!) A good time was had by all. We've added a recording of "Jerry Lee" from the show as well as "Keep In Touch" (from the CD) to our myspace page, so check it out.
Speaking of new recordings, you also might want to check out the media player for some new clips from Moving in Reverse. Once you've heard them, read the reviews, and understand they don't suck, why not buy the CD?
Man, they're just rolling in now. More proof from the folks at LEO that Moving in Reverse is purty darn good.
Moving In Reverse has gotten its first review courtesy of Louisville Music News. Check it out here. See? THEY get it. Why don't you?
If you weren't there on Saturday (and trust me, we know who wasn't there) you missed out big time. The infamous lost theme to "Snakes On a Plane" was performed for the first and probably last time. Lowell rocked the pedal steel to the point of strings breaking and souls shaking. This shall not be the final acoustic show, with any luck.
Sunday was another Caffeine-free Yardsale show, bringing all four people at Lisa's to their knees.
September 8 is the CD release show, don't forget dammit! Our buddy Neil Hulsweed will be helping us out on pedal steel, and the fine talents of Foster, Dos Bros, and Lee Harvey starting at 9:00 pm. Miss it and miss a special moment in music history.
So the show on Sept 8 has officially been dubbed the CD Release Show. This means more of you have to come out and people should buy the CD. We won't force you, but it is strongly encouraged... if you don't you'll get mean looks (and possibly worse!) from some big ugly thugs we're strategically placing throughout Lisa's.
The Rustic Frog show was an interesting one... David was on safari so the show was done power trio style, traumatizing all the New Albanites.
And don't forget this Saturday is the super special acoustic show at Old Louisville Coffee House. Show starts at 6:00 with Johnny Berry and Goodbye Congregation. And then on top of that Sunday @ Lisa's @ 10:00 pm with Voice of Addiction. We'll be rocking to make up for any possible loss of manliness incurred by the acoustic show. Yardsale's nothing if not burly.
We've been asked to play at the ol' Rustic Frog this Friday night. And we're gonna. 11:30 or later is when we're hitting the stage. And sometime shortly after that we'll be getting thrown off it.
And check out the shows page- we've got a show on August 26 @ Old Louisville Coffee House for you under 21-ers, which we also plan to do (gasp!) acoustically. That's right, we'll be showing our sensitive storyteller side. Or maybe we'll drink too many espressos and rock anyway. You'll just have to come find out.
More shows on the way!
And please please don't forget to buy the new album, Moving in Reverse. Ear X-Tacy's got it now, you can order, you have no excuse. We want everyone to hear our hard work. And if you don't care about us, think about the people that helped us out, like Justin Eslinger, Jordan Forst, and Neil Hulsweed. So check 'er out already!
Gotta give a big ol' thanks to Norust for having us out on Saturday, lordy mama. I don't think we've ever been treated so nicely by not just the bands, but the venue people, the sound guy, everyone was just amazing. Especially the sound guy.
And can someone explain what people in Cinci eat? There's no fast food anywhere! We managed to find an Arbys, but even that's on the upper-side of fast food. I've never seen a city without golden arches SOMEWHERE.
Finally, after months of work and waiting and salsa dancing, it's here:
BUY THE NEW YARDSALE CD, MOVING IN REVERSE, AT CD BABY
C'mon, this album has it all: songs about whiskey and TWIX, floods, not one but TWO songs about basements... not to mention the amazing array of different styles. Ferchristsake, there's even pedal steel on one song! What are you waiting for?
Good lord, I hope our hearing returns by next week. Third Street Dive is a great venue- nice, appreciative crowd, clean bathrooms, the works. But man, we were like a lear jet in that place. It was requested that we do a Velvet Underground song, so "Foggy Notion" was played for an indeterminate amount of time (10 minutes? 30 minutes? Who knows?) We'll be up there next Saturday as well, so if you missed it this week, come check it out next week.
Moving in Reverse is finally here! You can pick up a copy at a show, or you can get them from CD Baby in the next week or so (we'll have ordering links handy, don't worry!) And if you haven't gotten a copy of the first album, you can get it AND Moving in Reverse together for $10 if you get them at a show. Can you beat a deal like that?
Okay, enough used-car salesman talk.
A big thankee to everyone that made it out to R Place last night, especially the people at the bar who loved us so much. There was no Skynyrd, but we made due, broke out a brand-new song ("Standing Here") and another that we haven't done since Jacob was in the band (and even then only once or twice, "Not This Time"). And of course we can't forget the Local Villains, who graciously put the shindig together.
There's also a show TONIGHT at Third Street Dive @ 11:30. Kind of last second, but you know, it happens.
Well here we are with our purty new site. Still working out a few kinks but that's to be expected. You'll notice all kinds of neat stuff, from the ability to comment on news updates to the easier to use photo page to the new audio files and... well, we'll leave you guys to explore everything.
We have to give a massive thanks to Mr. Jon Culver for making this dang thing. Is he the man or what?
Also of interest- in the music section you'll see the front cover and tracklist for the new CD. Ordering info will be available shortly. YEE HAW!
Good lord, what a week. The Lil' Bit Country Lil' Bit Rock Tour rolled on and came to a gut-busting conclusion this week. Despite Mother Nature trying to scare people away with some crazy lightening and torrential downpours, the Gerstle's show went very well, thanks in no small part to some overly-excited audience members screaming bloody murder. David brought the keyboard to play a couple songs from the soon-to-be- released Moving in Reverse and Lowell brought the pedal steel. Needless to say, the sound guy was thrilled. Thanks to each and every one of you who came out and to Mantle Retractor for kicking things off.
Saturday we almost lost Chris in the wilderness of Indiana. Once the search party found him unharmed, we played a show across the pond in New Albany at the Rustic Frog for breast cancer awareness. As those of you at the show heard, a great many people seemed to be under the impression that the show was a benefit for breast cancer. We set them straight by explaining that breast cancer was bad and not something you should be donating money to support.
Then, as if that wasn't enough, right after the Frog show we went back over the bridge to the Third St. Dive (which is anything but a dive) to play another set, capping off the first real tour in a long time. So a big thanks to everyone who made playing so much fun as well as to all the bands that refrained from kicking our asses. We're gonna take a little breather, but don't worry, we've got a few more shows in the pipeline along with the new website AND the new album, so there's no slowing this train down.
Wow, what a couple of shows. First off, thanks to Scaramouch and Ben Purdom (and the rest of A Gang of Charges) for bringing the rock on Thursday. Lisa's PA was acting up, cutting out completely during the debut performance of "Water & Gasoline," which might be the universe's denouncement of that song, I dunno.
Saturday's show at the Bulldog Cafe was even better. Ocelots started things out right (alebit short, thanks to some ridiculous scheduling snafus) with some grade-A rock. A few hours later, coming out of retirement, Louisville's legendary Charlie the Painter introduced Yardsale (you know, us!), who proceeded to play a heaping dose of country to the completely uninteresting patrons. The presence of Lowell's new pedal steel guitar further rammed the point home. Another new song, "Last to Know" was debuted, but even more exciting (for us anyway!) was Jon Free singing "The Radio is Blasting" with the band. So thanks to Jon for braving the Bulldog and helping us out.
The new album, Moving in Reverse, is on its way- be prepared!
Gerstle's, what a place. Despite some overzealous fans screaming for Chris to take off various articles of clothing, the show was a resounding success, thanks in no small part to Mantle Retractor and the people who came out to drink and scream and all that good stuff.
Has it really been a month since the last update? Weird.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who showed up and hollered so enthusiastically; and an extra thanks to Jimmy for opening up. Our buddy Neil sat in on pedal steel for the second half of the set, adding some extra twang to the likes of "Candybar," "Everybody," and "Jerry Lee" as well as making it possible to pull of "Okie from Muskogee." Frankly, it doesn't get any better than that. The only way to top this would be to clone us so we can all play two instruments and once and add a bunch of goofy percussion. Or something. Whatever.
[update 3-15] We've added some pictures from the show thanks to Alan Fairchild- check those out here
In Album 2 news, it's done. Yep. We narrowed it down to 13 songs, sequenced and ready to be mastered. Exciting, innit?
My how the time flies. Must be all the caffeine. Anywho, as you can see there is a gig set for March 11 (we like to give you guys plenty of time to plan!) a return to the fabled Oak St. Lounge. Last time there was a Yardsale show there, it was with good 'ol Charlie the Painter, who treated the crowd to a rousing performance of Eamon's "Fuck You I Don't Want You Back." Lowell was on one of his fabled quests, making for the first Diet Yardsale show, complete with "You Drive a Truck," harmonica, and fuzz bass. Good times indeed.
So what's been happening in the last month? Lotsa recording going on. The final song count is 19, with five left to be mixed. There's loud songs, soft songs, country songs, rock songs, songs with cats in the background, songs with triangles, songs about monkeys, songs about love, songs about love and monkeys... just the whole spectrum, really. Then comes the arduous task of picking the good from the bad from the pathetic, designing artwork, titling the thing, etc. etc. Have a suggestion? Email it.
Have to give a big thank you to Rob, Paul, and Scaramouch for playing with us last night (and making us bring our A game!), as well thank those of you who showed up (on a school night, no less!) Some old school action in the form of "When You Open Your Eyes" and the "Candybar/Think Again" medley cropped up, stickers were given out by the handful, and the rock was successfully brought.
There are also some pictures from the show (thanks Gerri!) to be found in the photo gallery.
More shows on the horizon. Keep checking back (or join the mailing list).
If you look to your right, the view is not very inspiring. But if you look to your left... you'll see there is a show at the Rudyard Kipling on Thursday, January 19. Show should get started around 9:30.
Also, Indie-Music.com has reviewed the Yardsale CD- you can check it out on their site or the archived copy on our site. Are you enticed enough to buy it yet?
