It used to be that Yardsale was Louisville's most listenable country band. Sure, it's made up of cool scene kids dabbling in the art of Merle Haggard the same way Zooey Deschanel dabbles in pop music: Because they love the game, and because they aren't that bad at it. Appropriately, Yardsale pretended that the past 20 years never happened, writing songs your Bullitt County granddaddy could enjoy. Consider the 2007 record "Electric Western," which was twangy and rightfully under-produced. On "Knock Alley West", Yardsale gets louder and epic. The country influence is still present, but with loud-quiet-loud dramatic pauses, heavy guitar parts, and a more polished production. If that's Yardsale's new direction, Louisville has a treat coming its way.
